8,500 Miles Away from Home

In a small village far from the capital in the country of Sudan, Elamein is a ten years old boy who is working in the fields with his dad.  He had to find a way to balance schoolwork with household chores. He was smart, he had created a routine of completing his homework in school before it was due. This way when his dad called him over to help on the field, he would have one less stress. With the hot sun glaring on their backs like a watchful eye, Elamein and his father took a break in the tent they had built from sticks to avoid the harmful effects of the sun above them.

“The sorghum got big. The rain this season did us well,” Elamein’s father (Hussien) said in Arabic.

They watched as a light breeze moved through the crops causing them to dance gently.
